Laguna Niguel, Calif. (April 26, 2011) – The bidding for a 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee #18 Wayne Gretzky rookie card, the original UCLA Pauley Pavilion jump circle and the personal basketball memorabilia collection of Hall of Fame coach Arnold “Red” Auerbach is expected to heat up during the next five days, as collectors scramble to secure these coveted pieces of sports history before SCP Auctions’ April auction comes to a close April 30.
The item drawing the highest bid, the Wayne Gretzky rookie card, is arguably the most valuable modern trading card on the planet. The current bid for this one-of-a-kind PSA graded GEM MINT 10 card is $64,850 and that figure is expected to rise dramatically in the auction’s final hours. Additionally, the Pauley Pavilion jump circle is currently at $94,948 and the bidding for that, too, is anticipated to reach fever pitch as the auction accelerates to its close.
