Regency-Superior will conduct a two-day Public Auction at the St. Louis Stamp Expo 2011, March 18-20th. The auction has 2,400 lots of USA, British & Worldwide singles, covers, country collections, and box lots.

Session I begins on Saturday, March 19th, and covers all U.S., British Commonwealth and other Foreign singles & sets. The USA section is loaded with 19th and 20th Century issues with Special Printings, including rare position pieces such as the 1908 5¢ Lincoln (Scott #315) imperforate center line block and the four matching corner arrow blocks – all mint never hinged, and offered as a single auction lot. Fewer than six such sets can be assembled as such due to the way the 33 issued sheets of 400 were cut and distributed. The Philatelic Foundation has certified one center line block and that was hinged, so no more than five MINT never hinged sets can be put together and the number is very likely smaller still. Scott prices the hinged blocks at $16,000. All are post office fresh, and very fine to extremely fine in condition.
Session I continues with the first part of a $2 million EFO collection that will be sold over the next few years. There are also excellent selections of plate blocks, airmails and other back of the book including encased postage. Foreign stamps, including a wide selection of British Commonwealth with Canada & Provinces round out Session I.

Session II begins on Sunday, March 20th with a potent Postal History section that features the wonderful and valuable Steamboat Collection formed by the late Herbert E. Bohren, a well known St. Louis area collector. 80-lots of beautifully handstamped covers from the boats that carried mail up and down the Mississippi, Missouri, and Red Rivers during the mid-1800’s are offered. Covers carried aboard the steamboats ‘Sultana’, ‘Bunker Hill No. 3’, ‘S.B. Rapides’, and many other notable river steamboats are distinguished by their unique markings. A couple of the lots are accompanied by the consignor’s beautiful pen & ink renderings of these vessels, maps and river scenes mounted on exhibit pages.

Session II concludes with Collections and Box Lots from the USA, British Commonwealth and other Foreign countries. Among the offered lots is a fabulous world class mint collection of Niger Coast Protectorate being sold intact, replete with rarities with every surcharge bearing a new 2010 BPA Certificate. This collection begins with the Oil Rivers Protectorate (Stanley Gibbons #1-6), continuing with the Old Calabar Provisionals, Half Penny and Shilling Provisional Surcharges, and ending with Niger Coast Protectorate proper and Opobo River Provisionals. This is a once in a life time opportunity to acquire a great collection of this difficult and challenging British colony.
The sale concludes with worldwide and topical collections featuring some big and valuable collections being offered intact as received.
The auction will be held at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel – the show hotel for the St. Louis Stamp Expo. Viewing for the auction is available at Regency’s St. Louis gallery through March 14th, and then at the Renaissance Hotel during show hours.
