SCP Auctions Adds Ruth 48th HR Ball To Spring 2011 Auction
SCP Auctions announced that they added a Babe Ruth signed and inscribed baseball which was hit for his 48th Home Run of the 1927 Season to their spring auction. The ball was hit by Babe Ruth on September 7, 1927 off Danny Mac Fayden, a right hander for the Boston Red Sox, in the first inning of a game at Fenway Park. Upon its retrieval, Ruth added his signature to the sweet spot (8/10), and inscribed the adjacent panel, “48 Home Run, Sep 7 1927.” Today it survives as arguably the most significant Babe Ruth home run ball known to exist in private hands, dating from his most prolific record-setting season. SCP Auctions is offering this museum quality Babe Ruth artifact as part of their Spring, 2011 Auction. Call SCP Auctions today to add your consignments to this extraordinary auction event.

Among the handful of irrefutable Babe Ruth home run baseballs that have ever surfaced in the collecting hobby, this specimen stands paramount. Babe Ruth’s personal acknowledgment of the feat in his hand, on the ball itself is astonishing. The fact that it was hit during the historic 1927 season, just a few weeks shy of Ruth becoming the first player to ever hit sixty home runs in a season makes this a baseball treasure of the highest order.
