MEARS - New Information About Lincoln Signed Documents
MearsUpdate: With special thanks to Daniel W. Stowell, Director/Editor of The Paper of Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, IL, new information has been brought to light with regards to lots #1 $ #2, the Abraham Lincoln signed documents. Both have been found to have been written in association with soldiers serving in the United States Colored Troops. Lot #2 was actually written to an African American soldier serving during the Civil War, and may be the only example offered for public sale. Lot #1: 1864 Ultra Rare Abraham Lincoln United States Colored Troops Endorsement (4"x5") to Joseph Holt, Judge Advocate General - Dated July 28, 1864 - Signed As President - (JSA Letter)
Lot #2: 1865 Rare Abraham Lincoln Signed Endorsement Concerning the Case of Sergeant Major Adam Laws, 19th United States Colored Troops, one of only a few known correspondence with a Colored Soldier (JSA)
